New Jersey Consumer Information Statement
Effective May 15, 2026
New Jersey law requires real estate licensees to provide a Consumer Information Statement ("CIS") to consumers at first substantive contact concerning the available types of business relationships and the duties owed by licensees in each. The CIS is published by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission and explains the following business relationships:
- Seller's Agent. Works only for the seller and owes fiduciary duties (loyalty, confidentiality, etc.) to the seller.
- Buyer's Agent. Works only for the buyer and owes the buyer fiduciary duties.
- Disclosed Dual Agent. Works for both the buyer and seller in the same transaction with the express written consent of both. A disclosed dual agent cannot act exclusively for either party.
- Transaction Broker. Works with a buyer or seller, or both, but does not represent either in a fiduciary capacity.
TPRE will provide the official New Jersey CIS form, and will obtain your acknowledgement of receipt, at our first substantive contact regarding a specific property as required by N.J.A.C. 11:5-6.9. The official form is published and maintained by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission and may be obtained directly from the Commission at https://www.nj.gov/dobi/division_rec/.
This page is informational only and does not substitute for the signed CIS form, which will be provided in writing.
